Enrollment/General Information

* Fifth and Sixth Grade Middle School Students will bused to the After School Program of your choice *

The Program provides care for children in Kindergarten through 6th grades. The program is designed to accommodate any children who are physically handicapped, providing they normally ride school buses.

The program operates daily 2:45 – 6:00 pm (KES, BES & HES). On scheduled 1/2 days of school, the afternoon program begins at 12:45 PM and ends at 6:00 pm. Children may be registered to attend the afternoon sessions on a part-time or full-time basis. A special vacation child care program is offered on most school holidays and vacations (Veteran’s Day, President’s Day Break and April Vacations). The program does not meet on days when school is delayed, canceled or dismissed early due to weather or other circumstances.

The program curriculum is realistic and diversified. The types of activities offered include: arts and crafts, organized sports and games, free play (indoor and outdoor), homework assistance, computer education, dance, special rainy day activities, and periodic field trips. The curriculum strives to meet the varying needs of the different children and their respective ages.

Registration is restricted to those children attending District #17 Elementary Schools. Those who choose to register on a part-time basis must notify the HK Recreation Department a month in advance and specify what day of the week the child will be attending.

Full-time: Fees are calculated each month, based on the number of school days. If you register full-time (4 or 5 days/week), the fee (based on 20 school days) would be $280 per month (1st child), $200 (2nd child).

Part-time:
The Recreation Department must be notified a month in advance of specific days your child will attend. Adjustments in the days a part-time child attends may be made by contacting the Site Director! If you register part-time (1, 2, or 3 days per week) the fee is $16 per day (1st child)/ $13 per day (2nd child). Additional discounts available for additional siblings.

All payments are due the fourth Friday of each month and will cover the following month.

There is a $5.00 per day late payment fee for any payments not received by the fourth Friday of each month. Payment notices will be handed out the third Friday of each month and parents have seven days to submit payment.

There is a late pickup fee of $1.00 per minute (6:00-6:15) and .50 cents per minute thereafter, paid directly to the staff on the day of late pickup.

There is an annual processing fee of $20 per child. (Maximum of $40 per family)

2018 April Vacation Camp

The HK Recreation Department will be offering a vacation program during April break at the H-K High School Cafeteria. The vacation program will provide care for children in Kindergarten through Grade 6.

We will be open all days of school vacation April 16 – 20. The program will begin at 7:00 AM and will end at 6:00 PM.

The program’s activities are both active and passive in nature. Types of activities offered include: Arts & Crafts, Sports/Games, Free Play, Videos, Swimming in the HK Pool, and a Field Trip. Each day at there will be an organized game in the gym.

Schedule of activities:

  • Swimming: Campers will have a choice to go swimming at the HK pool on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Lifeguards will be on duty along with camp staff.  Please note that children must be able to swim without a bubble. They will be tested.  There will be alternate activities for non-swimmers.
  • Field Trip: * Admission fee and busing is included with your registration. On Thursday, April 19th the camp will be visiting Lucky Lanes in Newington from 9:30 – 1:00 PM. Includes 2 games of bowling, pizza and drink. Kids must wear socks.
  • Special Event:  On Tuesday, April 17 – kids will participate in a Don’t Burst my Bubble Workshop. Different activities will be offered including putting a child in a bubble, bubble printing and making bubble snakes. You won’t believe how many things you can do with bubbles!
  • Sports Day: On Friday, April 20th, there will be a sports/game jamboree. Sports will include: kickball, tennis baseball and knock-out. Other games like tennis court volleyball, capture the flag and dodgeball will also be played. Wear a team t-shirt or hat and receive a prize that day!

The Vacation fees are as follows:

Daily Full-Time (7:00 – 6:00 pm)
You may register your child for individual days. Payment is due by April. Payments must be made in full.

  • If attending Monday (4/16) or Wednesday (4/18) the fee is $40/day for the first child and $35/day for the second child.
  • If attending on Tuesday (4/17)  the fee is $50 for the first child and $45 for the 2nd child. Includes special entertainment fee.
  • If attending on Thursday (4/19), the fee is $55 for the first child and $50 for the second child. Includes the field trip admission and bus.
  • If attending on Friday (4/20), the fee is $45 for the first child and $40 for the second child.

All Inclusive (M-F, 7:00 – 6:00 pm)
If you register your child all week, the fees are $205 for the 1st child and $180 for the 2nd child. This is a $25 savings!

Enrollment: If you do not register your child April 12th, enrollment will not be guaranteed.

Late Fee: There is a late pick-up fee of $5 for every 5 minutes a parent is late past 6:00 PM, paid directly to the program staff on the day of late pick-up.

What to bring: Children should bring a bag lunch daily. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Anyone swimming should bring a bathing suit and towel. Children should wear sneakers and dress for active play.

HK Recreation Summer Camp

MondayFriday, June 26th – August 10th (No 7/4) at the HK HS Complex.
There are 7 weekly sessions with 4 options:

  • CAMP ONLY (9:00 – 3:30 pm)
  • EXTENDED AM (7:00 – 3:30 pm)
  • EXTENDED PM (9:00 – 6:00 pm)
  • FULL-DAY CAMP (7:00 – 6:00 pm)

The program meets rain or shine. Activities include: sports, games, arts & crafts, field trips, special events, wacky Wednesdays, ice cream truck, & weekly themes.  Please note that children must be able to swim without a bubble. They will be tested.  There will be alternate activities for non-swimmers.

There are no daily sign-ups.  Non-Residents may register for an additional fee!

All Day Childcare

Who: Any children in grades K – 6
Where: HK HS Cafeteria (may have to be moved to Burr)
When: 7:00 am – 6:00 pm

There will be all-day childcare offered on the following days for the 2017-18 school year:   November 7, 10, February 19, 20, More info. to come.

2017-18 Vacation Days

 

Nov. 7th & 10th – Activities include swimming in the HK HS Pool from 10 – 12 pm, and arts and crafts. There will be a giant bounce/climb/slide inflatable from 9:00 – 3:30 pm on 11/7 only. Fun sports and games as well. Bring lunch, bathing suit, and towel. AM and PM snacks will be provided.   Please note that children must be able to swim without a bubble. They will be tested.  There will be alternate activities for non-swimmers.

Fees:

  • $45 (1st child) / $40 (2nd child) / $35 (3rd child) (non-residents add $10 each)


2018 February break

Feb. 19th & 20th – 
Activities include swimming in the HK HS Pool from 10 – 12 pm, arts and crafts and fun sports and games as well. Bring lunch, bathing suit, and towel. AM and PM snacks will be provided.

Special Event: Reptiles Rock!  (Tuesday, February 20th)  Show includes mini zoo with 10 to 14 smaller animals (bugs, frogs, snakes, lizards, etc.) and 4 larger animals such as a red or yellow tortoise, a monitor or tegu lizard, a boa or python and an American alligator.  Everyone will have the opportunity to handle both the snake and alligator following the program.  Not only will the children have a great learning experience, they will have awesome FUN too.

Fee: $45 / $40 2nd child each day

Come enjoy the morning with friends playing games, coloring, reading, etc. Program meets for one
hour before the start of school. Program follows the school calendar and does not meet when school
is delayed or cancelled due to weather or other emergencies.

Interviews will be scheduled by the Director of Child Care, Jen Saglio, beginning in March.

If selected to be a CIT, you are required to: attend ARC First Aid / CPR / AED Training on Saturday, June 2nd from 10:15 am – 1:30 pm at the Haddam Brainerd Library; attend CIT Summer Camp Orientation on Monday, June 4th and Thursday, June 7th from 3:00 – 5:30 at the HKMS cafeteria; commit to volunteer for 4 weeks and pay $100.00.
